Guest Blog re: CPR Training During COVID-19

I, along with several hundred other long-term CPR instructors, was asked to participate in a survey recently and provide additional comments regarding how the current climate of COVID-19 is impacting CPR training and bystanders' willingness to get involved in a witnessed cardiac arrest.  If you are into statistics like I am, you'll find this very interesting, albeit alarming as well.

Remember that failure to act during cardiac arrest means certain death to the victim.  We in the industry are fearful that this period where only those absolutely required to be certified are being trained will have long-term consequences with fewer people trained for years to come...and that could rival COVID-19 in terms of death and disability over a much longer period of time.

Training is still as important as ever.  The statistics continue to tell us that cardiac arrest happens most often in the home, despite the fact that most people learn CPR because it’s a requirement of their job.  Could any of us live with ourselves if our spouse or child or parent collapsed in front of us and the difference between life and death was whether or not we knew how to respond decisively?
