Do You Need CLEET Approved CPR Training?

Heartland CPR now have a CLEET number to reference when you take Heartsaver First Aid + CPR with us.  We need to reference that number in several places to be compliant with CLEET rules, so just let us know when you register that you are pursuing CLEET and we'll document appropriately.

We teach Heartsaver (non-medical) training about three times each month; usually a weekend, weekday, and occasionally offer evening training...something sure to fit any schedule.  Want to get on our distro list to be the first to know when classes are added to the schedule?  Reach out today and we can make that happen or provide a link to include in new hire paperwork!

Learn to Save a Life This Spring Break

Where can you learn CPR free of charge?

We get calls all the time asking where people can get a free CPR class, and I am tasked with telling people that they won't find a free class for those whose employment or educational facility requires certification.  I usually explain that AHA materials are costly (and mandatory) for every participant, and the fee the instructor (or company) must pay for those materials account for about half of the fee charged for a given class.  Since 99% of those asking must have the classes for certification, that's the end of the conversation.
Some agencies have received grants enabling them to purchase the necessary supplies to teach the most basic class, often called "CPR for Family & Friends", in communities; other groups have other revenue streams so this type of course keeps employees already on the payroll busy and their teaching skills sharp, usually on a quarterly  or bi-annual basis.  These very basic classes have different requirements than certification classes and allows instructors to teach a far greater number of students at once, which also means less overhead cost.  Even these very basic classes have become harder and harder to find without charge, so we are doing our best to fill that gap.  If you are one of the few that simply wants to learn CPR for your own peace of mind and don't need a certification card, we have just the ticket!
Heartland CPR has created a short, PowerPoint-based class covering basic First Aid and hands-only CPR.  We began offering what we call "First Aid 4 Dummies" (FA4D) to the public free of charge in 2015.  We make nothing by offering it and will utilize our equipment, instructors, and expertise; it's just our way of giving back to a community that has allowed us to be successful since 2003 and watched us grow into the premier training company in Oklahoma.

Mark your calendars.  The next class will be offered at Heartland CPR located at 11901 N MacArthur Suite #F2 during spring break...Monday March 13th @ 12 noon.  There is no catch...this is a free class offered to those who wish to learn simple steps they can take to respond in emergency situations and potentially save lives.  Instead of charging for this valuable training, we will be accepting donations for OKC Regional Food Bank, so please bring a canned food or non-perishable food item with you.  Since we need to know how many supplies to prepare, you must pre-register by contacting Heartland CPR via email "contact@HeartlandCPR.com" or by phone at 405-603-6666 and simply let us know your name, email address, phone number, and the number planning to attend…or self-register online at www.HeartlandCPR.com .  That's it!

Remember, this is not for certification and targeted at those wishing to learn for their own peace of mind; if you are required to take a class for your employer or education requirements, this is not the class you need (although we can still help you with one of our American Heart Association classes taught throughout the month).  Thanks for your interest in Heartland CPR!

A little about Heartland CPR, llc
Heartland CPR has quickly become the go-to choice in the OKC area and statewide for emergency training.  We offer AHA's Heartsaver courses for non-medical personnel as well as BLS, ACLS and PALS for Healthcare Providers.  We would be happy to get your recommendation when you are approached for training.

Although our business has celebrated over a decade in business, my husband Brian has been a paramedic within almost every system in the Oklahoma City area and been an instructor for most of the past 30 years.  I have been an instructor and in business since 2003, and we have ten contracted instructors with combined experience as instructors as well as their fields of nursing and paramedicine well over half a century!  With a minimum of six participants, we will take training to our customers in the metro area; we will even travel state-wide for larger classes.  When there are smaller groups or individuals in need of training, we can accommodate those requests by combining individuals in order to make classes.  We always have those classes which are open to the public posted on the schedule on our website, www.HeartlandCPR.com, for the coming months offered at our OKC office location at NW 10th & Council.

Formerly known as Custom Training Solutions, we have been providing AHA training in BLS, ACLS & PALS to various medical facilities and individuals since 2003 as well as Heartsaver First Aid, AED, and CPR for those in non-medical positions desiring safety training, and we have been committed since the beginning to personalized quality training.   We understand that your time and the time of participants is precious, so we do our best to cover the material in the most efficient manner possible; we don't simply aim to fill a mandated timeslot when everything of value has been covered.  The responsible use of your time is second only to our dedication to quality training and assuring that every participant certified with us has a genuine knowledge of the material.  Despite the occasional pleas from those "give us the test and let us get out of here" types, our dedication to our values are reaping us the rewards that come with the reputation that is known for quality rather than "cattle-herding", low-quality, quickie classes with unengaged instructors.  Seriously, our instructors are some of the best in the business.  We have so carefully selected them based on personally observed character and work ethic rather than just a resume on paper.   Paramedics and other BLS instructors approach us constantly about picking up work with us and that just isn't the way we operate.  When we want someone, we approach them...not the other way around.

We work with many reputable practices and facilities in the metro area including Northwest Pediatrics, Pediatrics Group @ Integris, KidsFirst After Hours Pediatric Clinics, Deaconess, McBride Hospital, Oklahoma Heart Hospitals, SpineCare of Oklahoma, Northwest Surgical Hospital, and Community Hospital and are the exclusive training provider of LifeShare, ProCure, SmileGalaxy, One Core Health/Orthopedic Institute, Laser Spine Institute, and Oklahoma Christian's nursing program (for more than a decade); our non medical clientele includes US DOT, US Weather Service, Johnson Controls/JCI, Cytovance, FMC Technologies, Reagan Smith Energy, Taylor Valve, and Asplundh Tree Experts.  We also participate as a skills session center for AHA's online courses if you encounter those that are interested in doing a portion of their training online.

When our customers let us know that they were frustrated by a lack of consistent vendor choices in the area selling AEDs and accessories, we entered that market in 2011 to keep our customers serviced.  We have sub distributorships with Philips and HeartSine and can sell both brands to our customers at prices far more competitive than can be found locally or online.  AED buyers get 10% off their future training requirements.

Heartland CPR is BBB-accredited with an A+ rating and was honored with the Torch Award for the OKC area in 2014.  Ginger Davis was selected for SBA’s “Emerging Leaders” class and is a 2017 graduate.  We have been ranked “Best Of” Thumbtack and many local directories too numerous to mention.
our mission
At Heartland CPR, teaching life-saving skills to others is our passion. By limiting our class sizes, minimizing test anxiety, and taking every opportunity to exceed the expectations of our customers, we engage participants with our fresh approach to training. Whether it's a customer's first class or fiftieth, we know that there is always something more that can be learned. When it comes to required certification training, boredom shouldn't be the norm and laughing shouldn't be outlawed. We believe that learning can - and should - be fun!
our vision
At Heartland CPR, we endeavor to set the training standard by making learning fun, offering superior service to our customers, and retaining talented trainers who continually strive for excellence in their fields. Respect for one another along with our collective faith-based values will guide our every decision and action. Our dedication to the training provider we represent, the contractor partners that represent us, and the customers that we serve sets us apart from our competition, impacting our continued growth and success.

Are You Prepared for Sudden Cardiac Arrest?

Many people were horrified to witness Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) live during the Buffalo Bills/Cincinnati Bengals NFL game when Bills player Damar Hamlin went down on the field.  The good news of this stories how the teams and sportscasters rallied around, prayed for, and were too distraught to continue the game.  The scene that played out also highlighted that the quick actions of athletic trainers and EMS crew that literally saved a mans life and, as a result, he is now recovering in the hospital.  It highlighted the very real positive outcomes that having trained personnel who can jump into action quickly, an AED dispatched to the scene and put into use within minutes of the collapse, and the coordinated response by EMS and continued care upon arrival at the hospital can yield a victim of SCA

If you are rusty or need to learn the steps of CPR, the cost of a class and a couple hours out of your daily routine could net life-saving benefits of a family member, friend, or coworker.  If having an AED onsite at your place of business, club, or even home is something that interests you, we think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how easy to use and affordable they really are.  Chances are you have a fire-extinguisher at home or in your place of business and would welcome anyone to grab it should the need arise.  An AED is intended for use in the same manner...the faster it can be deployed, the better the victim's chance of intact survival.  No medical background or training necessary beyond a simply CPR class.  Remember that most cardiac arrest happens at home.  Are you prepared?  We can help!

Fresh Fraud is Still Taking Place

Many years after we transitioned fully to the more secure eCards from the American Heart Association, we have seen a new instance where our AHA Training Center was fraudulently entered on a certification card and the individual attempted to pass it off to an employer.  Because physical typewritten cards were phased out years ago by the AHA and we at Heartland CPR were one of the first to transition in January 2018, the employer immediately found the cards turned in to be questionable, so they reached out to us for verification that the training actually occurred.  Since the instructor listed hasn't worked here since last May, we immediately suspected deception when contacted as well.  Upon investigation, the individual presenting the cards had actually registered for and even made a deposit for the class required but then no-showed and instead fraudulently filled in our Training Center information, we believe using an app on a phone.  From what we can piece together, here's what would need to happen to allow this scenario to play out:

1) this individual must know an AHA instructor that had access to the old 2011 version of AHA physical cards (so hopefully that individual is no longer an instructor if they are willing to be involved in like this)

2) they would further have to know one of our existing customers in order to copy our Training Center and instructor information from a legimiate eCard, unaware that the instructor was no longer actively teaching at the time the cards were dated

Ironically, after all this came to light the individual contacted us attempting to register for a class with us.  We had to let them know that we have banned them from attending with us on the basis of a lack of integrity and our conviction not to be involved with someone who would willingly commit fraud and use our excellent reputation to do so.  If we can ascertain with certainty out which customer helped in this deception by allowing our information to be copied (albeit poorly) on the fictitious certifications, they too will be banned.

Even though the instructor listed had absolutely no involvement in this, she asked that her name be redacted as well to avoid any possible appearance of her wrongdoing on her part.  We teach and certify around 3500 individuals annually and have an unequalled reputation in the state of Oklahoma.  It's immensely disappointing to witness a healthcare professional who would be willing sacrifice their integrity, tarnish their reputation with the Nursing Board and the AHA, and potentially lose their job...but to attempt to discredit our reputation in the process leaves us no desire to ever do business with this individual in the future or anyone knowingly involved.  Healthcare providers are trusted members of our community so something of this nature reflects poorly on all they associate with.  And does anyone want someone caring for their child or parent with such a lack of integrity?  Saving three hours of class time certainly isn't worth the far reaching consequences they now face that will certainly follow them in their healthcare career.  It's never, ever worth it!

Small Business Saturday All Month Long!

Small Business Saturday is coming up next weekend and Heartland CPR is rolling out some specials to keep your family safe this season!  All our first aid kits, emergency supplies, barrier devices, CPR wraps, tee shirts, and stocked items will be "Buy One, Get One 1/2 off" so you can stuff those stockings with something of real value.  Can you imagine a family member or friend being saved because they were prepared with a first aid kit or barrier device for providing CPR?  What about a first aid kit that will be used over and over for years to come?  Everything we stock, also seen on our "shop" page, https://www.heartlandcpr.com/shop.html, will be included in this special.  (Note that our page includes the shipping fee, so all items can be discounted $5 when picked up at our office.)

If certification training is more the desire of your gift recipients this year, we're offering gift certificates at 10% off face value...that means you can prepay for a $100 BLS or Heartsaver CPR+AED class for just $90 and gift someone on your Christmas list with the gift of education.

And, finally, we do offer AED sales.  As a sub-distributor, we can't run this kind of specials on life-saving devices from the quality manufacturers we represent, but we can assure that we can sell them for less than any online or storefront out there...and we're a small local business that's still going to be here when you need more pads or batteries replaced.  What an ideal group gift from the whole family for parents, grandparents, or whoever would like to be prepared to save a life should the need arise.  Did you know 88% of cardiac arrests happen in the home and every minute someone who needs a shock to the heart goes without one, their chances of survival drop by 10% per minute; with responding first responders 5-8 minutes away, that's a dangerous gamble.

Stop in and see us anytime this month Monday through Friday 10-4, grab a gift certification for the babysitter, new parent, pet parent, healthcare worker, or anyone in your life that could benefit from training and take home a gift that keeps on giving long after the fruitcake gets thrown out.

Think Your Kids Are Too Young To Learn CPR?

You'd be surprised just how well even young kids can learn and retain the skills of CPR.  In our experience, most 12 year olds are mature enough to listen and participate in class well enough to be certified...but even children much younger may be able to learn and practice a few simple steps.  We offer a simplistic class each quarter here at our office for those that don't need certification but simply want to learn; we also take this class on the road if you have a group of babysitters, family members, social club, or church members wishing to learn without certification.  When you consider that most emergencies requiring CPR occur in the home, consider that it just might be your child that saves you or another loved one.

Charli just turned 7 and is rocking CPR.  Kids are more impressionable than we think and what they learn now will stick with them throughout their lives...if we stress the importance of leaning life skills like CPR, who knows what lives may be saved or changed in years to come.  Great job, Charli!

Our Newest Heartsaver Hero

Officer Andy DeYager was presented with a Heartsaver Hero pin for his willingness to put to use the skills he learned in a Heartsaver First Aid + CPR class with us recently.  If you don't know Andy, he's a pretty great guy who just happens to be a police officer and is married to one of our awesome instructors Kali, so this was a special moment for all of us.

In Officer DeYager's own words, he tells us what happened that day:

"The call came out as a Full Arrest and I was closer than the FD so I decided to go. When I walked in, I saw a lady attempting to perform CPR on her elderly father. She appeared to be in distress, her compressions were not deep enough, and unfortunately did not look effective. I immediately took over for approximately 60+ compressions until Fire/EMSA entered the room and transported the patient to the living room. While in there, they were able to regain a pulse and his heart began beating unassisted."

We're so happy that Officer DeYager jumped into action and contributed to a team rescue with members from various agencies and even family members of the victim.  We're proud to call Andy part of the Heartland CPR family.  Great work Officer DeYager!
